Marquette recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by LAB
MARQUETTE — As most local cyclists have probably noticed, Marquette is a special place for bicycle enthusiasts.
Today, Marquette got formal recognition for just that.
The city of Marquette has been designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community–Silver Level from the League of American Bicyclists in a special ceremony held earlier today.
“This award really recognizes our efforts,” said David Stensaas, city planner for the city of Marquette. “I think people realize that when they see something like this, that this community is committed to a lot of things to make our quality of life as good as possible for the community.”
The city of Marquette was also awarded silver last time it applied for such a designation.
Even though it was awarded silver, Marquette is among the top 20% of cities that have applied for such an exclusive award.
Out of the over 1,500 applicants, only 39 were ranked above silver.
