Ahmed Shrine Circus protested in Marquette for use of animals
MARQUETTE — The 2019 Ahmed Shrine Circus has arrived in Marquette. While some are excited that the circus is in town, others are not.
A local animal rights group called Animal–Free Circus Marquette congregated outside Lakeview Arena, calling for an end to the use of animals in the circus.
“I think primarily most of the people coming here, even tonight, don’t know what happens behind the scenes to animals,” said Mandy Moseley, one of the protest coordinators. “They don’t quite know the prominent abuses that are happening. I think if they did, they wouldn’t choose to come to the circus. So we’re just trying to be compassionate in our education.”
Animal–Free Circus Marquette states that they support circus entertainment, as long as animals aren’t involved.
The group is currently working on piecing together a presentation for the Marquette City Commission to ban circuses that use animals.
The group has also created a petition for this cause, which you can find here –> www.chng.it/MtP4gWx9gZ
