UPAWS hosting adoption event, dog training demonstration this weekend
MARQUETTE — UPAWS has a busy weekend ahead, with events benefiting the community on both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, UPAWS is teaming up with Bissell for an Empty the Shelters event from noon to 4, where families can adopt a furry friend for just $25.
“It’s a wonderful time to adopt an animal,” said Ann Brownell, volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator. “Spring increases the census at shelters, so now is the perfect time; great price, $25, so head out to your local shelter, check them out on Bissell pet foundation’s website, and adopt a furry friend.”
UPAWS is also hosting a dog training demonstration on Sunday at 2 p.m., which is geared towards children ages 4–12.
The hope is to teach kids the proper way to deal with dogs in various situations, to avoid any dog biting incidents.
UPAWS used to have similar demonstrations at schools, but their new facility allows for a better venue for such an event.
