UPDATE: August 24th, 10:40 A.M.: The investigation into the body found in the Munising Bay concluded that 81-year-old Silvija Ronis, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, ventured out into Lake Superior sometime after 9:30 P.M. on August 21st. The incident was concluded to be nothing more than a tragic accident.


MUNISING — On Wednesday, August 22, at approximately 12:35 p.m. the Alger County 911 dispatch center received a call regarding what appeared to be a body floating in Munising Bay.

Alger County Sheriff Department and Rescue 21 personnel responded.

According to officials, the body was located near the west side of Munising Bay.

The victim was an 81-year-old female who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Preliminary findings indicate that the woman ventured out into Lake Superior for unknown reasons sometime after 9:30pm on Tuesday, August 21.

The investigation is ongoing.
