WWI veterans remembered in cemetery walk

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center held a World War I walking tour tonight at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette in celebration of Memorial Day week.

The 13th annual walk is special this year, as it marks the 100th anniversary of the Great War. The powerful stories of the men and women who served were shared, to protect their memories.

“We’re focusing on the lives of eight different veterans from the first World War, and their stories both before and after their service,” said Longyear Research Librarian, Beth Gruber. “These are the stories that make up our community, and they deserve to be remembered.”

The history center is hosting a few other upcoming tours for the month of June, including the historical bus tours, and the 150th anniversary of ‘The Great Fire’ walk in Marquette.
