Northern Michigan Women’s Golf selected for NCAA Super Regional
INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Michigan University Women’s Golf team has been selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships East Super Regional.
The Wildcats are one of 12 teams to compete in the East Super Regional taking place at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan. Six individuals from non-qualifying teams will also compete. Starting Monday, May 7, the team will compete through the three-day, 54 hole competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Fresh off a second-place finish at the GLIAC Championships, the Wildcats feature their first-ever All-GLIAC First Team selection in junior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F. Riggs). The team also saw three individuals earn All-GLIAC Second Team recognition with seniors Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Seconday) and Avery Rochester (Marquette, Mich.) and sophomore Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy).
NMU is one of just three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams to reach the super regional, joining Grand Valley State University and Wayne State University.
This is the second year the women’s golf team has been selected to the NCAA Super Regional with last year’s squad finishing eighth.
