MANISTIQUE — Troopers from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post are currently investigating the Manistique area in order to identify a man believed to be impersonating a police officer.

There have been multiple reports of a man with no law enforcement affiliation conducting traffic stops in Schoolcraft County. The man is described as being 30 years old with short, dark hair and wearing a brown uniform with a gold badge. His clothing does not have any identifying tags, but he claims to be a recently hired deputy working for the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department.

In the reported cases, he is driving a dark car, possibly a Dodge Charger, which may have a black brush guard on the front, spotlight and may be equipped with removable red and blue flashing light bar on the interior of the windshield.

Anyone with information about the identity of this man is asked to call the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post at (906) 643-7582. Anyone that may have had contact with him or been stopped by him should call and report the encounter.
