Michigan Gubernatorial Candidate visits NMU
MARQUETTE–Michigan democratic Gubernatorial candidate, Abdul el-Sayed is making his way through Michigan on his second tour.
Northern Michigan University’s College Democrats hosted a town hall meeting this evening to learn more about the candidate’s positions and stances on issues. The meeting, held in the campus’ University Center, was open to the public. Dr. el-Sayed is the former Executive Director of the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion.
“I’m so thankful for all the families who shared their experiences with me and helped us to put together a protocol that I think is the most robust on issues that people in the U.P. face – and there are some unique ones,” said gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Abdul el-Sayed. “Right now so much of this community has relied on mining for jobs for a very long time. We know that the mining industry has been cut down largely because of outside forces in places like China – we need to make sure that where we can, we preserve those jobs and bring them back if possible.”
The event also allowed students and other members of the public a chance to register to vote in upcoming elections.
