GLRC holding fundraiser at historic site

ISHPEMING — Great Lakes Recovery center has an upcoming fundraiser that will take you on a journey to the past while supporting a needed cause.

This upscale garden party will be held exclusively at the Peter White Family Cabins. These historic cabins have held their fair share of dignitaries through the years and the event will feature unique activities tying back to the location’s roots.

With the Laughing Whitefish River running through the venue, birch bark canoe rides will be offered along with visits from some familiar faces.

“We will have a Peter White impersonator and a George Shiras impersonator. George Shiras was Peter White’s son-in-law who was the famous wildlife photographer who actually shot footage right on that property and on Laughing Whitefish. The venue is steeped in history, you almost feel like you are on sacred ground,” said Great Lakes Recovery Center Foundation Coordinator, Shelby Bischoff.

All the funds from this event will be distributed to various programs throughout the organization, which includes youth programs and art therapy. All event goers will also have the opportunity to escape from the 21st century and take a bus ride to the cabins.

Anyone with any questions is asked to contact Shelby Bischoff at 906-228-9699.
