ONOTA TOWNSHIP — Two motorcyclists were injured after one rear-ended the other while slowing down Saturday afternoon in Alger County’s Onota Township.

The accident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on M-28 approximately a quarter mile West of Sand River Road. William Vaillancourt, 65, of Sanford, MI, crashed his motorcycle into the back of another motorcycle driven by Terry Whittington, 51, of Midland, MI.

The two men were traveling together, each towing small trailers behind their bikes. Vaillancourt was found to be at fault.

He was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious injuries. Whittington was wearing a helmet and had minor injuries.

Both men were taken to UP Health – System Marquette for treatment. A state police advanced investigator responded to the scene.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
