Historical U.P. bar gets facelift
MARQUETTE — A well-known bar in Marquette is receiving some extra attention after getting a bit of a facelift.
The Wooden Nickel has recently undergone a paint job, and rather than the traditional purple, it’s now yellow. In addition to the color change, a new sign is also in the works.
The bar has been in the community for quite some time now and the owners felt it could use an update.
“This is a very historical place, its been here since the early 1900’s. The current owner bought the bar in 2004 and at that point it was brown, it then became purple and now it’s just time for something new so this is all part of his little plan,” said Wooden Nickel General Manager, Amanda Noordyk.
The outside patio has been open for the summer months. Although food is not served in the bar, customers are invited to get any local food delivered to the establishment. Owners are aware of the minion jokes that have come with the new color and said it might have inspired them to hold a Halloween celebration come fall.
