Local business makes $5,000 donation to university
HOUGHTON — A donation of equipment to Michigan Tech’s School of Business and Economics will create more opportunities for students.
Iron Mountain based CCI Systems donated over 50 pieces of equipment to support the new Information Systems Student Lab of the Management Information Systems program.
The computers, routers and other hardware donated by CCI gives the students access to more hands-on learning in the lab.
Michigan Tech’s School of Business and Economics Jeffery Wall said, “So we haven’t had a lot of opportunities for hardware-type projects and this donation has now allowed us to add hardware to the hands-on learning that we do here in the MIS program.”
That experience will make a big difference as students get prepared to enter their selected careers.
Alice Markham 4th Year Management Information Systems major Alice Markham said, “This is really going to supplement the education that we’re already getting, which will help us to move forward into our careers, just as the generally whole. It will allow us to get some of that hands-on experience that we’re not currently able to get in the MIS program and I think it’ll make a really big difference in my education and future students.”
The value of the donated items is around $5,000.
