High winds cited as cause of structure fire
ESCANABA — Tuesday’s high winds contributed to a structure fire in Escanaba.
Just after 2:30 p.m., Escanaba Public Safety responded to a report of a barn on fire at 7227 K Lane. Upon arrival, officers saw smoke and a small amount of visible flame coming from the peek of the barn that was located near a home.
The boards at the peek of the roof caught fire. Authorities say high winds contributed to the stove pope coming off part of the chimney above the roof, which caused hot ember to go under the ridge cap, igniting the boards under the metal roof.
The barn did sustain some outside damage. No injuries were reported.
