MARQUETTE — New Year’s Eve is going to look a lot different this year in Downtown Marquette. Double Trouble Entertainment has a one–of–a–kind ball for this year’s ball drop.

Double Trouble Entertainment co–owner Bill Digneit says the company came up with the radical design after looking at the different balls used all over the world New Year’s Eve. He says the design and function of the ball will allow it to be used for many, many years to come.

“We came up with something that we think could give a big city feel to our lovely little Marquette,” said Digneit. “We worked with my friends over at Crush Industries and they helped us out. We built this custom fabricated ball and really just wanted it to be kind of an exciting thing to watch,” he added.

The 2017 Ball Drop Bash will feature the second annual ‘Party With A Purpose’ at the Masonic Building. Money raised from the event will go to the Ahmed Shrine and Marquette Junior Hockey.

“Ahmed Shrine takes the money and helps move children all across the U.P. to get them to all of their different hospital visits, so that’s what the money is going to be going for,” said Digneit.

The ball drop will start its descent 30 seconds prior to midnight outside the Masonic Building on Washington Street.
