Formal charges filed against man who escaped prison
NEWBERRY — A man who was arrested after escaping prison last week faces charges.
Alize Zachary Dwayne Montague, 19 escaped the Newberry Correctional Facility in Newberry, Michigan on August 16th. Montague is charged with prison escape, a 5 year felony under Michigan law. Due to the inmate being a habitual offender, the maximum punishment is life in prison.
Other charges that Montague faces include, taking a hostage while being a prisoner and armed robbery. Both of these offenses can also face a punishment of life in prison.
Montague was arrested by the Michigan State Police outside of a local motel over an hour after he escaped. A probable cause hearing will be scheduled in the next fourteen days.
