Local students swim Mackinac Straits
MACKINAW CITY — Four U.P. students participated in a five mile swimming challenge across the Straits of Mackinac.
This yearly challenge started four years ago when NMU swimmers wanted to take training to the next level. NMU students, Estabon Gutierrez of Mexico, Curran Moffit of Rochester hills, Michigan, and Benjamin Lindberg of Sweden all competed for pride and a whole lot of bragging rights.
A younger competitor also swam with these Wildcats, Lindsey Welch a Senior at Marquette Senior High School.
The challenge took the students around two hours.
Kevin Dowling, a coach for the swimmers said the weather and water temperature was absolutely perfect.
