Woman taken to hospital after one-vehicle crash

BARAGA TOWNSHIP — A Baraga woman ended up in the hospital after losing control of her vehicle early Thursday morning.

Troopers from the L’Anse Detachment of the Michigan State Police Calumet Post say the accident happened around 1:20 a.m. on Baraga Plains Road near Mansfeldt Road in Baraga Township. The 47-year-old woman was driving southbound when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle struck several mailboxes before leaving the roadway and eventually hitting a tree.

The driver was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay Ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Police say it appears that alcohol and speed were factors in the accident, which remains under investigation. The driver’s name is being withheld pending the completion of that investigation.

Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by Baraga Tribal Police, the Baraga County Sheriff’s Department, Bay Ambulance, Dynamite Towing, and the Wisconsin Public Service Electric Department.
