UPDATE: Two remain hospitalized after crash

GRAND MARAIS — Two people remain hospitalized tonight from a head–on accident that occurred Monday morning in Grand Marais.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., a Ford pickup crossed the centerline on M–77 and hit a GMC Terrain.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Department says the driver of the GMC, 72 year old Robert Nyman and the front seat passenger of the Ford pickup, 57 year old Anthony Scott, are still in the hospital, listed in stable condition.

The driver and backseat passenger of the Ford pickup, 26 year old Kyle Mooney and 26 year old Monica Gonzalez, were both released from Helen Newberry Joy Hospital after being treated for minor injuries.

At this time, the accident is still under investigation.

Four people were injured in a head-on accident Monday morning in Grand Marais.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., a Ford pickup truck driven by a 26-year-old lower Michigan man was headed southbound on M-77, when the truck crossed the center line and struck a GMC Terrain head-on.

All three people in the Ford pickup and the driver of the GMC Terrain, a 72-year-old Grand Marais man, received significant injuries and were taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital for treatment.

The accident is still under investigation. Names of those involved in the accident are not being released at this time.

Burt Township Ambulance, Burt Township Fire, Pictured Rocks Park Rangers, Luce County Ambulance and Luce County Advanced Life Support Echo Unit all assisted the Alger County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
