A ‘sign’ of things to come
ISHPEMING — The revitalization of the city of Ishpeming is an ongoing project for city officials. One of those projects has recently been completed.
A brand new ‘Welcome to Ishpeming’ sign was installed on the west end of the city. The new sign sits right on US-41 and can be seen as soon as you come over the hill from West Ishpeming.
The project was a joint effort between the city and the Downtown Development Authority.
“Hats off to Dan Perkins who coordinated the effort,” said city manager Mark Slown. “Stately Masonry did the masonry work. Signs Now did the sign work and U.P. Fabricating did the metal fabricating and Lindberg & Sons did the landscaping. It was a really great project. I think it will serve the city well for a really long time, give people a favorable impression and the old sign will be removed.”
From start to finish, the sign came with a price tag of $40,000. Slown added that there are plans in the works for another sign to be constructed at the other end of town sometime in the near future.
