Animal shelter ready for biggest fur-raiser of the year
ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter is preparing for it’s biggest “fur–raiser” of the year.
Currently the shelter has pretty routine numbers with about 65 cats and 20 dogs. The money from the fur–raiser is used to ensure the animals continue to receive the highest quality of care while they are at the shelter and after they are adopted.
“They do not leave here until they’ve been spayed or neutered,” said Delta Animal Shelter Staff Member Mary Blasier, “they all get vaccines, they get a microchip, they get a month of free health insurance for the animal they’ve adopted. It takes a lot to take care of all of these animals. We adopt them for a fairly low fee. I think we’re the lowest in the Upper Peninsula. We make up the difference between what we spend and what we charge in fundraising.”
The event takes place this Thursday at the Island Resort and Casino just outside of Escanaba. The doors open at five o’clock. A dinner will be served at 7:30 as well.
Tickets will be available at the door, but if you’d like to get yours in advance you can contact the Delta Animal Shelter at 906–789–0230.
