City Council accepts land donation
ISHPEMING — The City of Ishpeming just got a nice gift from Eagle Mine.
Eagle Mine donated a piece of property to the city, which they used to own. They spent nearly $300,000 abating asbestos on the property and demolished a blighted building on the site at their own expense.
“Whatever the future may be for that site, which has not been determined at this point, it is a very nice piece of land that I think the city can put to some productive use,” said City Manager Mark Slown.
The land came with a $250,000 grant that Eagle Mine has asked be used for a pavilion in the city. The city has yet to decide what the land will be used for.
