Race supports alcohol, drug addiction recovery
MARQUETTE — A local organization is looking for as many participants as possible for an upcoming race.
The 8th annual Great Lakes Recovery Run is set for this Sunday. You can either participate in the 5K walk to the 10K run. All of the money raised will go to support the Great Lakes Recovery Center Foundation, which helps people overcome alcohol and drug addiction.
“The mission is to empower recovery through hope and change,” said Tayler Tankersley, an assistant for the GLRC Foundation. “It’s pretty much about spreading the awareness of behavioral health addiction. We are just trying to get as many people out and have a good day. (The race) is at the Lakeshore Parking Lot by the Ore Dock.”
“It’s turned my life around, the things we learn and the love that we get from this place,” said Kim Bengal, a GLRC client. “It’s a family when you no longer have a family because of the disease. These people picked me off of the floor and they put me back together again.”
You can still register for the run Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The race starts at 12:00 p.m.
