Celebrating wellness for veterans
IRON MOUNTAIN — The first annual Celebrating Wellness Fair was held earlier today at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center outdoor pavilion.
The event featured over 30 different wellness booths that highlighted both VA and community resources. One of the most popular areas was the Adaptive Sports Clinic that showed veterans the latest adaptive sports equipment.
“There’s nothing better than doing active sports,” said Chief of Spinal Cord Injury Unit (Milwaukee VA) Kenneth Lee, “recreationally as well as competitively to make yourself feel better. When you make yourself feel better, everything else kind of just falls into place. I hope that Iron Mountain veterans around as well as community participate for any future events that’s going to happen within the VA system. It’s a great way to get involved with the veterans.”
The Celebrating Wellness Fair was initiated as a way to celebrate recovery month and wellness week.
“Our whole goal is to introduce veterans and our community what all is available,” said Recovery Coordinator and Lead Coordinator Karen Krebsbach, “natural, holistic healing that’s available within our community as well as what’s available here within the VA.”
The event also featured cooking, tai chi, and zumba demonstrations along with other tips for a healthy mind and body. The VA hopes to make this an annual event.
