Chamber of Commerce cuts the ribbon on new offices

MARQUETTE — After nearly twenty years of not having one, the Marquette area has a brand new chamber of commerce.

The Marquette Chamber of Commerce opened the doors of its new office on Third Street. The event was hosted by the Greater Negaunee-Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce and chamber members of area businesses were all in attendance. But, while the ribbon cutting may have been today, the Chamber is already hard at work.

“Oh, we’ve been doing business already! We’ve been getting phone calls at the office from people visiting the area, looking for referrals, looking for directions. So it’s been exciting. We feel as if we’re functioning as a full chamber already,” said Matt Gougeon, President of the Marquette Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber will serve businesses in the City of Marquette, Marquette Township, and Chocolay Township. There are about thirty members so far, and the chamber hopes to gain around two hundred over the next year.

“What the Chamber will do is, essentially, provide services to area businesses so that we can improve the quality of life for everybody in the Chamber area,” added Gougeon.
