Two injured on motorcycle after car fails to yield

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Two people were injured in a motorcycle crash on County Road 550 in Marquette Township Sunday evening.

The collision happened near the access road to Wetmore Landing at around 5:20 p.m. A Harley Davidson driven by 67-year-old Stephen Dupras of Marquette was northbound on 550 when a Saturn passenger car driven by 18-year-old Carrie Ward, also of Marquette, pulled out from the Wetmore Landing driveway, failing to yield to the motorcycle.

Dupras took evasive action to avoid hitting the Saturn, but he collided with the guard rail on the north side of the road instead. He and his passenger, 61-year-old Linda Dupras, were thrown from the motorcycle and suffered non-life threatening leg injuries. They were transported to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment.

Ward was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Police say speed and alcohol were not factors.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by NMU Public Safety, UP Health System EMS, and the Marquette Township Fire Department.
