Finlandia baseball adds two recruits
HANCOCK — As Finlandia baseball looks to improve and become a more competitive program at the NCAA Division III level, the Lions have expanded their recruiting efforts. Finlandia baseball is excited to announce the commitment of Joey Krug from San Diego, CA and Sergio Pena from Miami, FL.
Joey Krug played baseball at West Hills High School in San Diego, CA, where he pitched and played infield positions. In his senior year he had a 2.12 earned run average (ERA) and recorded 28 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched. Krug will also be an asset at the plate as he is a power hitter that can hit to all fields.
“His arm will be an impact to our pitching staff,” said Assistant Coach Evan Brandt. “He is a competitor and has good stuff that keeps hitters off balance. Joey is very fundamental hitter with great bat speed,” said Brandt. “He will have a great opportunity as a freshman.”
Krug plans to study Sport Management at Finlandia.
Joining Finlandia baseball from Miami, FL is Sergio Pena a 6’5″ right handed pitcher. He attended G. Holmes Braddock Senior High. Pena is an accurate pitcher who tallied an 8-3 record with an ERA of 3.0. He also averaged six strikeouts a game.
“Sergio will be in the strike zone and that is strength as a pitcher,” said Head Coach Steve Nordstrom. “He is a big presence on the mound and loves the challenge of being out there and battling for his team.”
Pena plans to study Criminal Justice at Finlandia.
