President Erickson addresses enrollment issue

MARQUETTE — For the last four years, enrollment at the university has trended in the wrong direction.

Fewer students enrolling at NMU means fewer dollars are coming in. In order to buck that trend, Northern is doing several things to try and improve their enrollment numbers.

“Enrollment isn’t a spicket you just turn on and off one day. Enrollment is something that you have to build towards,” said Erickson. “Our goal is to stabilize that enrollment. While it’s very early in the process, the aggressive actions of advising, reaching out to students, the new marketing campaign and all the way across the board, those things are looking very promising for us.”

Erickson added that although it’s early, the number of students expected to be in this fall’s incoming freshman class looks promising.
