Another sign that spring is coming to Michigan is the removal of road weight restrictions.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is lifting weight restrictions on many state trunk lines — generally those with M, I, or US designations — starting Monday. The restrictions will be lifted from the southern border of the state all the way north to US–2 from Iron Mountain to St. Ignace. M–185 on Mackinac Island remains under frost restrictions.

In restricted areas, all–season routes will have no reduction in legal axle weights. On seasonal routes, there will be a posted weight reduction of 25 percent for rigid pavement and 35 percent for flexible pavement.
