NMU prepares for upcoming volleyball season
MARQUETTE — With all the talk about one and dones in college basketball, some teams do enjoy continuity when it comes to college athletics, including the Northern Michigan volleyball team. With preparation beginning for the upcoming season, it’s time to get back to work for a team with high expectations.
The Wildcats will bring back two seniors for this year’s squad…Alex Berger who earned First Team All–GLIAC last year and Lisa Studnicka who was named to the second team. NMU dominated within their conference but did have issues outside of the GLIAC and they have been preparing for most of the spring to iron out the wrinkles.
“Keeping a competitive mindset and not get too comfortable in a game and always pursuing the next ball and being better than we were in the last play is going to be something that will come huge for us in the next year. We’ve done a lot of that this spring and really have worked on maintaining runs or not getting down and not letting them score a lot of points at once which are things that happened to us in those out of conference matches,” Senior Alex Berger said.
“Our goal is to definitely try to teach them to be great players. But through their hardwork and their efforts, our goal is to get there. Our conference is very tough, our region is very tough so to be able to put another banner on the wall and win a conference, that’s going to be our goal and regardless if they’re a freshman team, junior or sophomore team, we want to win and we want to win for Northern,” Coach Dominic Yoder said.
The Wildcats will be hosting a spring volleyball tournament this weekend. Among the schools attending will be Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech.
