Sheriff’s Department deputy is Marquette County’s 2014 top cop

MARQUETTE — A Marquette County Sheriff’s Department deputy is recognized as the county’s top cop.

Deputy Betsy Rochon is the county’s Police Officer of the Year for 2014. She’s the first woman to ever receive that honor in the more than 20 years that it’s been given out.

Deputy Rochon says that her career allows her to live out a childhood dream.

“I look back on my childhood of growing up in Ishpeming and the love of the community, the people, the family, and what was instilled in many of us was to work hard and to love others,” she said.

Rochon is a Northern Michigan University grad, and she’s served with the Sheriff’s Department since 1983.
