New drama to premiere on ABC, American Crime
A new drama will premiere on ABC next week, American Crime.
The American Crime Podcast, hosted by film critic and radio personality Elvis Mitchell, takes an in-depth look at the groundbreaking new television drama American Crime premiering Thursday, March 5th 10/9c on ABC.
Each week will feature a candid conversation with the show’s creator and Executive Producer (Oscar winning screenwriter John Ridley) along with an array of show talent as we discuss the latest episode, character storylines, and other timely topics and themes. 1. The Cast
American Crime has assembled a cast of veteran actors and up-and-coming young talent to deliver deliver raw, riveting performances unlike anything else on network television.
Felicity Huffman, best known for her Emmy-award winning role as Lynette Scavo on ABC’s Desperate Housewives, scored a Best Actress Oscar® nomination for Transamerica. Leverage star Timothy Hutton won an Academy Award® for his performance in Ordinary People.
Veteran actor and writer W. Earl Brown was nominated for both a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Writers Guide of America Award for his work on Deadwood. Mistresses star Penelope Ann Miller was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for The Artist.
Benito Martinez won an ALMA award for his role as David Aceveda on The Shield. These legendary performers, along with Richard Cabral, Caitlin Gerard, Elvis Nolasco, Johnny Ortiz, and guest star Regina King, make American Crime can’t-miss television.
2. The Creator
American Crime was created by John Ridley, a novelist known for his work in literature, televison and film. In 2014, he won an Academy Award® for Best Adapted Screenplay for 12 Years a Slave. Ridley brought many of his talents to American Crime, including writing, directing and producing.
3. The Story
American Crime centers around the brutal attack of a young couple in Modesto, California. Matt Skokie, a war vet, is murdered, and his wife, Gwen, is left unconscious, barely hanging on.
The crime sends shock waves throughout the community stirring up tensions across socioeconomic and racial lines in this gritty new drama — from the points of view of all those involved. “It’s not about the police. It’s not about the prosecutors. It’s really about the family,” creator John Ridley says.
