SKANDIA — A police pursuit resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old Trenary man Wednesday evening.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post say they attempted to stop a vehicle for a speed violation on US-41 near M-94 in Skandia shortly after 8:30 p.m. The driver refused to stop and police pursued the vehicle south on US-41 to Kiva at high speed. The decision to end the pursuit was made when the suspect vehicle turned off the highway and onto a slippery and snow-covered county road.

Further investigation resulted in identification of the suspect and troopers were able to find the vehicle with the suspect still inside. He was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing arrest, and driving without a valid driver’s license. The suspect is lodged in the Marquette County Jail, and his name is not being released until an arraignment takes place in 96th District Court.

State Police from the Negaunee Post were assisted at the scene by the Forsyth Township Fire Department, Marquette City Police Department, Chocolay Township Police, and troopers from the Gladstone Post of the Michigan State Police.
