Semi hauling dynamite rear-ended
GARDEN TOWNSHIP — It was not quite an explosive situation on US–2 in Garden Township Tuesday morning after one semi truck rear–ended another.
Delta County Sheriff’s deputies say Erik Somirs, 60, of Long Lane, Mo., was eastbound on the highway when he slowed to turn left into the Garden Rest Stop just east of M–183.
A second semi, driven by William Watson, 59, of Hawks, Mich. then hit Somirs’ truck from behind. Somirs’ truck was hauling roughly 40,000lbs of dynamite.
Watson had to be airlifted to U.P. Health System – Marquette for unknown injuries. Somirs was uninjured. US-2 was closed for a brief period while the Med Flight helicopter landed.
Michigan State Police, Rampart EMS, Garden Township Fire, Tri-Star EMS, Inwood Township Fire, Valley Med Flight and Genes Towing assisted on scene.
