Upper Peninsula Weather Forecast 2/11-12

The Marquette Police Department​ is advising motorists in the Marquette area to avoid driving on US 41 South and to find alternate routes due to white-out conditions between Shiras Hills and Harvey. Blowing snow has substantially reduced visibility and has caused hazardous driving conditions. MPD says Motorists should not travel unless it is necessary. Those who must travel should allow for longer drive-times, and prepare for abruptly changing weather conditions.

Light snow fell during Wednesday afternoon, as temps pushed into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Lake effect snow continues tonight with 2-4 inches of accumulations, but the bigger story will be the return of the brutally cold air.

Weather Forecast:

Lows will fall around 0 to -10 degrees, while winds increase from the northwest at 25 to 35 miles per hour. This will create wind chills as low as -30 degrees.

Thursday looks to be a miserable across the region, with afternoon temps remaining in the single digits. Winds will howl out of the northwest at 15 to 25 miles per hour, producing wind chills between -15 to -25 degrees. Tomorrow night winds will die off substantially, as temps plummet below zero. Low temps will bottom out close to -10 degrees, while winds become light. We’ll get a break from the arctic chill on Friday, as snow arrives that afternoon.
