MARQUETTE — Chocolate lovers will be able to help a nonprofit group this weekend in Marquette while satisfying their palates.

The Superior Alliance for Independent Living has its sixth annual Chocolate Festival this Sunday. Ten area restaurants, bakeries and chocolatiers will present their delicious treats and desserts.

“We’ve got Gophers, the Cookie Jar, the Marquette Food Co-Op, Root 41,” SAIL program director Jessica Manier said. “We have Simply Superior Catering and Events, NMU Culinary Cafe and many more.”

The festival will also have drinks, door prizes, silent auction items and live music. The organizers think a chocolate-based fundraiser is a perfect complement to Valentine’s Day.

“All of the proceeds from the Chocolate Festival are going to go directly back to our SPAR program, which is our Single Point for Activities and Recreation program,” Manier said. “It’s an inclusive social and recreation program for people of all abilities. We just finished cross-country skiing. We have snowshoeing, we have hiking, we have kayaking.”

The festival is this Sunday from 1 to 3 at NMU’s University Center.

Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for a family. They’re available at the SAIL offices on Wright Street in Marquette and should also be available at the door.
