Work release inmate charged with escape

CALUMET TOWNSHIP — A work release inmate who walked away from a job site last week has been charged for the incident.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says 27-year-old Kevin Michael Anderson was arraigned Friday for escape from a misdemeanor jail sentence. The charge is a two-year felony. Anderson is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

The charge stems from an incident Thursday evening in which Anderson was working with a brushing crew at the Houghton County Airport and walked into the woods. He was serving a 30-day misdemeanor for obstructing justice. He was captured later that night near Dollar Bay.

Anderson is scheduled for a preliminary examination in Houghton County District Court September 19th.
