GLIAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll
BAY CITY – The GLIAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll was released tody. The defending NCAA Division II Champions, Grand Valley State, was selected as the favorite to win the conference. Michigan Tech was selected to finish second in the GLIAC. The Huskies must replace 10 seniors from last year’s team.
Ohio Dominican and Ferris State round out the top four. Northern Michigan was picked to finish in the middle of the pack in sixth place. The Wildcats have 11 new players on the roster this season.
“We have a lot of players that are very versatile,” said Huskies head coach Michelle Jacob. They’re able to play multiple positions and do a lot of different things on the field. I think that a big strength of ours has always been the ability to understand each other roles and our own specific roles. We have a plan that we go out there and try to execute. Everyday throughout the season that’s what we’re working towards is executing our plan.”
“I would like us to do very well. Obviously get into the conference tournament, hopefully get at least to the semifinals, if not the final, and hopefully get an NCAA bid,” said Wildcats head coach Matt Granstrand.
Michigan Tech begins the season at home vs. Winona State Sept. 5. Northern Michigan opens up the season at home vs. St. Cloud State also on Sept. 5.
