Former Escanaba mayor pleads guilty to embezzlement
The former mayor of Escanaba accused of embezzlement made a guilty plea in Delta County Circuit Court Monday.
Leo Evans, 58, pled guilty to an amended charge of embezzlement of more than $50,000 but less than $100,000. His original charge of embezzlement of at least $100,000 was dismissed for his guilty plea.
As part of his plea agreement, Evans will also have to pay restitution as determined by the state and reclaim joint interest of his home.
Evans embezzled funds from the Escanaba Eagles Club. He will be sentenced September 11.
