Tigers outfielder suffers setback; placed on DL

Detroit Tigers outfielder Andy Dirks has been placed on the Disabled List, for what the Tigers are calling ‘lower back muscular inflammation.’ Dirks has not played a single game for Detroit this season.

He had lower back surgery in March and was expected to be back after the All–Star break. Dirks was working out and playing for the Tigers Single-A affiliate in Lakeland, Fl. There is no timetable for his return. A typical stint on the DL usually lasts 15 days.

Detroit will open the second half of the season Friday at home against A.L. Central foe Cleveland.
