Huskies go camping with NHL teams
Michigan Tech University forward David Johnstone spent his holiday weekend in Traverse City at the Detroit Red Wings Development Camp. Johnstone and six other Huskies were on the ice at four other NHL Development Camps.
Forwards Tanner Kero and Reid Sturos, along with defensemen Cliff Watson, Shane Hanna and goaltender Jamie Phillips, participated in camps with the Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets.
Cliff Watson participated in his third development camp with the Sharks. The future San Jose blue–liner shared his insights about what life is like at the Sharks camp.
“Every year it’s a super good learning experience,” said Watson. “We are on the ice twice a day. We are in the classroom getting taught how they (San Jose) run their systems. Then we are getting put through some pretty good workouts too. Every year I leave there with tons of knowledge and just knowing the game a whole lot better, so it’s very nice.”
Michigan Tech University recruit Jake Jackson, who will suit up for the Huskies in the future, was also on the ice at the San Jose camp. He was selected by the Sharks in the 2013 NHL Draft.
