Lions sign first player from 2014 draft class
The Detroit Lions signed the first member of their 2014 draft class Thursday, agreeing to a rookie contract with fifth-round pick Caraun Reid.
The former Princeton defensive tackle signed a four-year, $2.22 million contract with a $188,000 signing bonus.
Lions officials are expecting to sign the team’s other seven draft picks quickly. Detroit has been one of the first teams to get all its draft picks signed each year since 2011, when the current collective bargaining agreement took effect with a revamped rookie contract system.
Draft picks who haven’t signed can still work out with their teams, with the assurance that they’ll be compensated if they get hurt.
Another NFC North team has already signed all of its draft picks, and that would be the Chicago Bears.
