NMU releases 2014 Volleyball Schedule

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2014 season, which includes 11 home contests.

“We are excited to get the new season started,” said head coach Dominic Yoder, who is in his eighth year at the helm of the Wildcats program. “Our young team will be exciting and talented as they gain valuable experience in a very competitive GLIAC conference.”

Yoder’s 2014 squad will be made up of eight freshmen, seven sophomores, three juniors and no seniors.

The Wildcats open the season with non-conference action, hosting the University of Minnesota-Duluth Sept. 4. On Sept. 5-6, NMU travels to Houghton to host, along with Michigan Tech, the Huskie Open facing a field including Upper Iowa, Bemidji State and Winona State.

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play begins Sept. 12 as NMU travels to Northwood and to Lake Superior State (Sept. 13). The Wildcats continue their road trek with three games in three days in Ohio Sept. 18-20. First, NMU faces non-conference opponent Cedarville College before taking on Lake Erie and Ashland in GLIAC action.

The Green and Gold host its first conference game Sept. 23 at Vandament Arena meeting rival Michigan Tech. The Wildcats close September with home games against Hillsdale and the University of Findlay, Sept. 26 -27.

NMU travels to Malone and Walsh on Oct. 3-4, before returning to the Vandament Arena for three games against Ohio Dominican (Oct. 10), Tiffin (Oct. 11) and a non-conference meeting with Wisconsin-Parkside (Oct. 13). NMU travels to Naperville, Ill. Oct. 17-18 for the Great Lakes Valley Conference versus GLIAC Crossover Tournament.

The Wildcats end the month with a three-game road trip at Grand Valley State (Oct. 24), Ferris State (Oct. 25) and Michigan Tech (Oct. 28).

NMU spends the remainder of its regular season with a four-game home stand, hosting Wayne State (Oct. 31), Saginaw Valley State (Nov. 1), Lake Superior State (Nov. 7) and Northwood (Nov. 8) at the Vandament Arena.
