NMU skiers earn All-America honors

MIDWAY, Utah – Four members of the Northern Michigan University Nordic skiing teams earned All-American honors in the women’s 5K and men’s 10K classic races at the NCAA Skiing Championships Thursday in Midway, Utah.
The Wildcats are third in the men’s standings with 66 points and third in the women’s standings with 59 points and second overall with 125 total points.
Senior Rosie Frankowski and junior Kyle Bratrud led the Wildcats finishing sixth in their respective races earning Second Team All-American honors. Junior Mary Kate Cirelli and freshman Fredrik Schwencke were 10th for NMU also earning Second Team All-American honors.
“It’s great to have four student-athletes earn All-American status and to have all of our student-athletes finish in the top 20 is outstanding,” said NMU head coach Sten Fjeldjheim. “This group of kids is such a professional group of student-athletes and I am so proud of them. Great day to be a Wildcat.”
Frankowski posted a time of 14:23.5 followed by Cirelli at 14:30.1 and sophomore Hannah Boyer finished 20th with a time of 14:48.7 in the women’s 5K classic.
Bratrud posted a time of 25:24.4 in the men’s 10K classic race followed by Schwencke at 25:47.2 and freshman Adam Martin finished in 13th with a time of 25:52.3.
The Wildcats complete competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships on Saturday with the women’s 15K freestyle and the men’s 20K freestyle races.
