NMU skiers earn conference honors

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Five members of the Northern Michigan University Nordic skiing team earned All-Conference Honors announced the Central Collegiate Ski Association office Thursday.
Junior Kyle Bratrud, senior George Cartwright, sophomore Mary Kate Cirelli, and junior Felicia Gesior were named All-CCSA first team while freshman Fredrik Schwencke and senior Rosie Frankowski were named All-CCSA second team.
“It’s a great honor for these student-athletes and our program to have so many of our skiers named to the CCSA All-Conference Teams,” said NMU head coach Sten Fjeldheim.
Northern Michigan is coming off wining the CCSA Championship this past weekend at Al-Quaal. Bratrud was second in both the classic and freestyle race at the CCSA Championship while Cirelli won the classic race and Frankowski won the freestyle race. Schwencke was third in both the classic and freestyle race last weekend while Cartwright was fourth in the classic and sixth in the freestyle. Cirelli added a second-place finish in the freestyle while Gesior finished sixth in the classic race.
The Wildcats return to action this weekend traveling to Houghton, Mich. for the NCAA Regionals.
