Baumgartner makes Olympic team
Iron River native Nick Baumgartner has made the U.S. Olympic Snowboardcross team, according to USA Today.
Baumgartner edged out two-time Olympic gold medal winner Seth Wescott for the fourth and final spot on the squad.
Both Baumgartner and Wescott competed in the Men’s Snowboardcross X event at the X-Games earlier today in Aspen, Colo. Baumgartner and Wescott were both caught up in wrecks that didn’t allow them to advance past the quarterfinal stage of the event.
The 32-year old Baumgartner is off to the Olympic games for the second time in his career. He was a member of the 2010 U.S. Snowboardcross team at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
An official announcement by the U.S. Snowboardcross team is expected to take place on Saturday.
