NMU’s Seimer earns WCHA award

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University forward John Siemer has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week following his performance against Alaska last weekend (Jan. 17-18).
Siemer, a freshman from Baldwin Park, Calif., led NMU with four points, scoring two goals and assisting on two more against the Nanooks. Siemer put four shots on goal and had a +3 plus/minus rating.
In the Wildcats’ 5-4 victory over Alaska last Friday (Jan. 17) night, Siemer scored NMU’s fourth goal on a power-play at 5:43 of the third period, pushing NMU to a 4-2 advantage after Alaska had closed to within one goal just 2:24 earlier.
He then assisted on Northern Michigan’s first two goals in the first period last Saturday (Jan. 18) evening, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. After Alaska scored four goals to go up 4-2, Siemer netted an extra-attacker goal at 18:33 of the third period to pull NMU within one.
Siemer, who joined NMU after the break, has five points (2g, 3a) on six shots over his first four games and is +3.
NMU returns to action at Alaska-Anchorage Friday at 11:07 p.m. (EST).
