Marquette looking for input on arts and culture

If you live, work, dine, or shop in the city of Marquette, your input is needed.

Marquette is working on a Arts & Culture Master plan.

The Master Plan is looking ahead to the next ten years.  Officials want community input on the type of activities, music, and festivals to host.

Anyone can chime in on the master plan, and two upcoming community meetings are planned.

“This is one of the biggest opportunities they will have to come out and share what they like about living here, what they would like to see more of,” Marquette Arts and Culture Center Community Services Manager Tiina Harris said.  “Arts and culture is not just the fine arts–we are casting a very wide net so it could be anything from paintings to a farmer’s market.”

“It’s so important for people to come and give their input because this opportunity doesn’t come along everyday where you have input in your arts and culture center,” Marquette Arts and Culture Center clerical aid Kim Melko said.

“What’s going to be unique about these public meetings is that you don’t even have to have something in mind if you came down,” Harris said.  “They are going to conduct a visionary session and do some creative brainstorming.”

The feedback from the meetings will be presented to the Marquette City Commission in April.

The community meetings will take place next week on Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Community Forum Room at Lakeview Arena.
