UPDATE: US-41 accident in Ishpeming

Update: January 9, 8:09 p.m.

The Ishpeming Police Department has released more information regarding a two vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 41 and N. Second Street in Ishpeming Thursday afternoon.

Police say a 53-year-old Ishpeming woman driving a Chevrolet Aveo on U.S. 41 failed to yield the right away while making a left turn onto Second Street.  The woman’s vehicle was hit by an eastbound Ford Windstar driven by a 28-year-old Marquette woman.

Two people sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, but one person had to be extracted from a vehicle by the Marquette County Rescue Unit.

Both cars were towed from the scene.

The Ishpeming Fire Department, Bell Hospital EMS, Michigan State Police, and the Ishpeming Township Police Department assisted at the scene.

A two-car accident held up traffic in Ishpeming this afternoon. The crash happened on US-41 in front of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum.

A van and a car collided at about 3:00 p.m. Firefighters had to extract one person from the car by cutting the roof open. The passenger was treated at the scene and was taken to a local hospital. Both vehicles had to be towed away because of damage from the crash.
