WCHA honor goes to NMU goalie
Northern Michigan University goaltender Mathias Dahlstrom has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week. Dahlstrom played both games between the pipes for NMU last week against Bemidji State. The Wildcats won both games against the Beavers.
The freshman netminder from Smedjebacken, Sweden stopped a total of 60 shots in two games against the Beavers. Dahlstrom allowed just a single goal in each game. He finished the series with a .968 save percentage.
Dahlstrom has a 7-8-2 record in 18 appearances this season for NMU. He is ranked second in the conference and 15th nationally with a 2.10 goals against average.
With two victories against Bemidji State, the Wildcats earned four points in the WCHA standings. NMU is next in action at home on Jan. 17 & 18 against Alaska-Fairbanks.
