NMU women’s hoops off to good start
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team is in a three way tie in the GLIAC North Division with both Michigan Tech and Wayne State. The Wildcats are undefeated at 5-0 in conference play.
Wildcats head coach Troy Mattson credits the play of not only his starting five, but also, the players who come off the bench.
“Our starters have been really solid the last couple of weeks,” said Mattson. “We are going to be a real tough team to beat when we show our depth.”
“A lot of teams go six, seven deep and we have the ability to ten or eleven deep, and that’s awesome because we can just keep rotating people in and out and then keep going at people,” said Wildcats junior forward Brooke Coenen. “Then the other team gets tired and that’s nice that we can keep pushing at the other teams.”
“We can’t have a better record than what we have, but we can still improve through,” said Wildcats junior guard Alyssa Colla. “I thought we came back from (winter) break ready to go.”
The Lady ‘Cats will look to keep their undefeated record in tact tomorrow afternoon against Ohio Dominican beginning at 1 p.m.
